DkIT Film & TV students screen projects at FEST Film Festival in Portugal

10 July 2019

Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT) is proud to announce that recently, three projects from our third and fourth year BA (Hons) in Film and TV Production students were showcased as part of the Filmmakers Corner in FEST Film Festival in Portugal. The projects range in style and genre such as, Sky's the Limit; a 3rd year short fiction film, The Wildgoose Lodge Massacre; a 4th year documentary and Dysphoria; a 4th year TV drama pilot.

Sky's the Limit was shot in locations across Co. Louth and is a period drama, set in 1969, when Francie, an imaginative 11-year-old boy, embarks on a quest to fulfil his dream of venturing to the Moon. The crew behind the film are Evan Kelly, Andrew Nolan, David Burns, Sam Parkinson & Luke Malone.

The Wildgoose Lodge Massacre is a 26min specialist factual historical documentary made for TV and explores one of the most horrific crimes committed by secret societies in Irish history which took place in Co. Louth, resulting in one of the highest profile trials of the 19th century. The crew behind the documentary are Stephen King, Adam Martin Connolly, Keith Cunningham and Niall Brennan.

Dysphoria is a TV drama pilot set in Dublin 2050, when the Garda Síochána have been replaced by the Police On Demand service, better known as POD, a system that has proven to be effective for the elite of the city, but damaging to the lower classes due to the corruption at its core. The crew behind the drama are Ciana Sherlock, Laura McGinley, Pauric Mullen, Sean Donnelly, Terry Creagh, Joy Onwuneme and Xian Wei Desmond Ooi.

Since its establishment in 2004, FEST has quickly become one of the leading showcases of groundbreaking films by emerging filmmakers, as well as a platform for international film professionals, up-and-coming and established alike, to come together to present their work, develop their skills and create synergies.

Sarah McCann, Lecturer on the BA (Hons) in Film and TV Production programme at DkIT commented;

Our educational partnership with FEST has been ongoing for a number of years and offers a wonderful opportunity for our students to travel to the festival to screen their work, along with attending masterclasses and meeting key industry leaders."

Sarah continued;

Due to the high level of practical modules on the Film & Television programme, we have had a long history of our student work being screened at film festivals both nationally and internationally, including at FEST in Portugal, and we look forward to seeing this year's student work screened at even more festivals in the near future."
