Creative Multimedia - Year 3

In the third year of the degree you will get the opportunity to realise, develop and showcase your creative ideas and skills. This will culminate in the public exhibition of the yearlong major project. You will broaden your theoretical knowledge and understanding of the impact and potential of the Creative media industry and further appreciate its influence on today’s society.

Multimedia Computer/Human Interaction
This Module aims to encourage students to undergo a more in-depth examination of design principles to facilitate the design of multimedia products that effectively reflect how people think and work.

From Fiction to Film
The module examines the relationship between a number of works of fiction and their film adaptations. Of particular interest are the changes to the original text, which students will be encouraged to explain in the light of cultural, social and economic developments. The role played by the audience member in the interpretation and reinterpretation of a text will also be investigated.

Information Requirements and Databases
This introduces students to database concepts and aims to give them the skills to create a dynamic web-site with database connectivity. This module introduces students to the possibilities offered by web applications to content-heavy websites.  Using Microsoft Access as a DBMS, students build their own dynamic web application from scratch.

Distributive Multimedia
You will examine the different ways of delivering multimedia content and designing with different delivery platforms such as the Internet, CD-ROM and Museum Kiosks as well as looking at emerging content delivery platforms. The aim of this module is to further student’s technological skill base and to allow them to initiate and prepare work on their final project, which they will work on in Multimedia practical project development in semester 2. This module focuses particularly on the Adobe Director multimedia authoring tool and its scripting language lingo which is a vital component in the creation of interactive multimedia products.
