Caroline O'Sullivan

Qualification
BA (Hons) in Sociology and Library and Information Science, MSc in Multimedia

Background
Studied for my undergraduate degree in UCD in Dublin. After graduating I worked in the IT department of a large corporate bank, I hated it with a vengeance so I went to DCU and studied for my MSc. I was in the first ever Multimedia Masters class so we were the guinea pigs in some respects, but I really enjoyed it. As soon as I finished my Masters I applied for and got a job in DKIT and I have been here ever since.

Teaching Position
Creative Media Course Co-ordinator.

Likes
Music (Attending gigs or DJing), travelling, good design, fashion. My research interests include Identity and Expression online, multimedia performance, creative media and popular culture. Other likes include reading, sport, cinema, eating out and shopping. I have the awful habit of getting addicted to crap American TV series'.

Background
Undergraduate degree in Imaginative Writing and Theatre Studies in John Moores University in Liverpool, then worked in a multimedia company in Limerick developing cd-roms and building web sites then completed MSc in Multimedia at DCU then tadaah! DKIT in Jan 2002.

Teaching Position
Multimedia Lecturer. I lecture in Flash, Dreamweaver, Writing for Multimedia, Writing for Film, Narrative Theory and User Theory.

Likes
Scuba diving, surfing, cinema, sleeping, gadgets, food and my dog.

Background
I studied Metalwork in the National College of Art and Design, graduating in 2000.   I then went on to study for my M.Sc in Creative Multimedia in DCU and applied for a position in DkIT after graduation, which I got.

I am an avid reader, with quite a diverse taste in literature. I enjoy going to gigs and exhibitions and I am a very keen traveller with a respectable travel record! I enjoy cycling,, swimming and trekking and I am a regular cinema goer.

Background
Graduating in the late 1990s I entered into the booming IT industry just in time to help save the world for the terror of the Y2K bug which threatened to plunge the entire planet into a digital Armageddon. I then returned to DKIT for a two-year stint as a lecturer in Computer Technology and became involved in developing several lifelong learning modules before departing for the world-renowned Institute of Communications Studies at the University of Leeds. Having gained my MA I returned to DKIT to find a new home in the dynamic and vibrant surroundings of the Creative Media department.

Multimedia / Information and Communications Technology lecturer .

Likes
(Academic) Emergent media, moral panics and state censorship. The role of media in the process of propaganda and persuasion. Irish silent film history. The cinema of the American new wave.

Background
I practised as a Solicitor in the UK.  I mainly worked in litigation and family law, taught advocacy and worked in policy development and as a Parliamentary Consultant in Rural planning. This was followed by practice in Human Rights, immigration and asylum law.  I worked in planning control in Dublin Corporation and since 2002 I’ve taught law and ethics at third level.

Teaching Position
Part time pro-rata Assistant Lecturer.

Likes
A good discussion, hill walking, travel and Sci-Fi. Growing my own vegetables and fruit.
